The President of Women In Performing Arts (WIPA) Leonora Buckman has also added her voice to efforts aimed at debunking the recent publications that veteran Ghanaian actress, Grace Omaboe popurlarly known in Ghana entaertainment industry as Maame Dokono is sick and she is asking for support and prayer from anyone.
Leonora Buckman was speaking to Samny Flex, host of the Accra-based Pluzz FM's morning program AMPluzz today and she said, "Actually we heard the story... you know and yesterday it was on Kwesi Aboagye's program. And they way it was going actually I was having so many calls that Maame Dokono is very ill...she is this, she that. So I said I have spoken to her about three days ago and I know she is okay. So I decided to call her first...you know and I started calling her and she wasn't picking. I got a little bit scared. What is going on. I called Charles Amankwa Ampofo and asked him whether he has spoken to Grace Omaboe. And he said he has just spoken with her and she was even in her house. And I said okay; tell her to call me back. And then I spoke to her. Immediately she called she said, "Maa I think you have the nonsense that is going on?" And I said yes. Somebody just told me. Actually it was Monica..., also a veteran actress.
"She (Maame Dokono) said she is okay. She only had a call from Hitz FM. And they were asking her about 'Obra'. So she spoke to them and when they were asking the questions, when the questions were going, they had actually started talking about Bob Okala's death and then she (Maame Dokono) said, "You know, I am not feeling okay." That was all. Only for her to start getting calls from Kumasi, wherever; that they have heard that she is not well and all that. You know, ..."
The President of WIPA affirmed by emphasizing that Maame Dokono is not sick.
"She is not sick oo. What happened is that she travelled. She went to a funeral in Kumasi. You know so when she came back she said she was feeling a bit tired. So she went to see the doctor and the doctor said she should just have some rest because of her age.
"You know so that it shouldn't be like she will break down and all that because she has been on set recently going up and down. So the doctor said okay she should have some rest.
"That is why when they were talking to her (Maame Dokono) she said she is not feeling well so they should do it (the phone interview on Hitz FM) later. That is all. So it is not like she is sick."
She also adviced we help the creative arts and stop talking about the sicknesses and the way they (artists) are going round in tattered clothes and all that; and she further suggested we change the style now.
Women In Performing Arts (WIPA) is an association that was founded by Leonora Buckman that aims to establish a welfare fund to support women in the creative and performing arts.
