The Ghanaian reigning king of comedy, DKB had some interesting words for us when he appeared on the 'Drive Time' program on Joy FM with Lexis Bill (host) and Kukuaa to have a discussion about True Love. The question on the floor was,
"Can true love survive in poverty, to the point that you can't feed yourself?"
And this is what DKB has to say
"True love. So I want people to get it straight. It can truely exist. I dont know where, how, all of a sudden, love in Ghana has become like a job where you love and you need to be paid. You love and bills must be settled. So you, what do you do with yourself? Are you just bleaching yourself? What are you doing with yourself, my sister? If you are always waiting for the man to pay this, pay that, my bills and my rent and things. Who send you say go to rent? People are homeless and sleep 37 round about, people are comfortably having two bedroom houses, single room self contain; you too you can go and perch for there(37 round about). Is it by force for you to go and rent? I am after your heart, I am not after your expenses. So true love can truely exist without money. So are you telling me that the couples in the lotto kiosks and all those poor people around town... honestly, true love can exist without money....those in kiosks; I mean the poor people, they are in happy relationships---you see the man and the wife happy...
"You were asking if it can exist without feeding---to the point where you can't feed? So you are telling me there aren't lovers in South Sudan?
"When you go to the UN, what is Ghana's ratings? Poor country!!! Doesn't true love exist in a poor country? We are all poor. Every poor person is in a process to get rich.
"The young men, you need true love because look, let me tell you something. At the end of the day they say true love wins. Because when she goes to the poverty with you, you will spend your last penny on her. Some women are enjoying their marriages now; their husbands are spending on them, buying them the porshest cars in town...You wouldn't understand. So what I am saying is that, some women are really enjoying their marriages or their relationships and all that had to do was to be loyal... They are really really enjoying....Because at the time when he didn't even have one wheeler, she believed he had eight wheeler."
