2015 BET Awards: Jay Foley on how Sarkodie(Rap God), Stonebwoy performed

Sarkodie Stonebwoy performances, Jay Foley 2015 BET Awards Grammy Museum LA
Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and Jay Foley(from left)
This article was written by Jay Foley as a live witness to Stonebwoy and Sarkodie performances at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, California for the 2015 BET Awards.

And it reads, "SARKODIE IS A RAP GOD"

I have been among the few people to get the chance to witness this huge musical spectacle called BET AWARDS. This is my second experience and I can only thank God for choosing me out of the lot to bear witness to what is happening in the outside world.

I want to say something about Sarkodie and Stonebwoy. Hope you have time to read.

Yesterday, at the Grammy Museum here in Los Angeles California, I was humbled and put into deep thought after Stonebwoy and Sarkodie took their turns on stage. Let me start my story. Now this goes out to all Ghanaians. Each and every single one of us.

Day in day out we undermine our very own people. We prefer to comment on the flaws of the very people who kill themselves to position Ghana on the Globe. We would rather tweet and criticize our leaders in various places and talents who day in day out push us forward.

Read also Sarkodie is a Rap God... BET is not for Africa, an account by Jay Foley

We care more about the errors than the good. We will compare our ways to other countries and say, "See how Nigerian artists are doing this and that". When we can look at the goodness of our very own and say same to them.

"Stonebwoy didn't deserve this, Sarkodie did that, 4x4 is this, Joey B is that. ..". Always always criticizing."

These people we careless about are the very people who plug us in at those places where we could never have dreamt of.

Yesterday, once again, at the GRAMMY Museum here in Los Angeles California, Sarkodie is a god.

Don't mince my words. He's a god. Yes I have said it. I have. He performed to a community of people who nevertheless understand twi in any way. Yet after AKA from SA handed his mic to Sarkodie, this young guy, whom we ridicule and laugh at with Ace Hood, Sarkodie rapped so so so well that "in twi" that we all stood up and clapped so hard. People from all over the world were simply amazed at his rap dexterity. His combination of words with rhyme and reason, so perfect to the point where i can say it was flawless. He said something in his rap that made so much sense.

He said, and I will try to summarize all he said.

"I understand the English language is not mine. You may laugh at my diction. Go ahead because its not my mother tongue. But if only you knew what I was saying in my local dialect, if only you understood the lines and the message in my music, you would see how good I am. I am not here to bring you America, I am here to show you what Ghana is made of. This is who we are"

His message to the few people who had the chance to watch his rap will forever hail this young man as a living testimony of life without borders.

Sarkodie said in his song that he is going for the Grammy. So ironic, his performance at the "GRAMMY" Museum made me see that BET is just too small for Sarkodie. Sarkodie is a rap god.

Lets protect our very own. Lets support and take pride in pushing our artiste and any other Ghanaian doing great things in his little small way.

As for Stonebwoy, I can't even describe the emotions that run through me when this man took to the stage. He is by far one of Ghana's finest dancehall talents. And he gracefully said, "Africa this is the first time in the history of BET that a dancehall artiste has made it to this huge platform." He sure was humbled by his own message.

My fellow bloggers, radio personalities, TV hosts, analysts and the media at large. There is only one thing we can do. Lets paint the right picture to the world. Your tweets and posts are read by everyone. Support your very own. And make Ghana proud.

To Stonebwoy, I say bro, big ups. Well done. You have shown me there's a world beyond what I can comprehend.

To Sarkodie, I salute you. Rap god. The BET is too small for you. Your Grammy dream has been turned into reality.

I support good music. Big ups to all musicians in Ghana.

4x4 Shatta samini trig atumpan etc., you guys are gods.

Ghanaian Cedi Is Suffering Because Of The Wrong Moves Made At Globalization - KSM

KSM
Ghanaian ace comedian and talk show host Kwaku Sintim-Misa popularly known as KSM has indicated in a facebook post that the depreciation of the cedi is not demonic but it is a result of the wrong moves made towards the new world order called globalization. He went further to reveal the three things that Ghanaians hate to do but ought to do to save the cedi.

For now, 4.4 Ghanaian cedis is equivalent to 1 US dollar.

It is very interesting. Read on.

The post read, ""GLOBALIZATION MADE SIMPLE"

I really thought Globalization was a very complicated phenomenon. But it isn't. To hell with all the complex economic definitions. To date, the most simple and accurate definition of globalization was given by Jesus Christ. A few eyebrows are raised every time I say this: I hear responses like "KSM stop clowning. When did Jesus ever comment on globalization?" When I hear that, I smile and spit out the quotation;
"UNTO THEM THAT HAVE, MORE WILL BE ADDED. UNTO THEM THAT DO NOT HAVE, EVEN THE LITTLE THEY HAVE WILL BE TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM". Deep!

We thought he was simply referring to talents, little did we know that he was talking about the reality of the WORLD ORDER yet to come.

My initial reaction to that statement was hostile. I took it literally. "Even the scripture is biased against the poor" I concluded. "It is in favor of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer." Now I know and understand better. It is neither a pro-rich or anti-poor statement. It simply means that those who are determined, aggressive and proactive will achieve better results than those who are not motivated, those who are passive and those who are reactive. If you are the former, you turn to continously gain more, and if you are the latter, you turn to continously loose more. Ghana and many African states are in the latter and we will continually keep loosing out until we change the paradigm.

Just imagine, one can import rice from Thailand, ship it across continents, bring it to Ghana, pay all the duties, cart them to the wholesale and finally bring it to the market. After all of that, the rice from Thailand will be sold cheaper than the rice grown right here in Ghana? What is the effect of that? The result is that gradually the rice from Thai will overtake the rice from Ghana in sales due to the price difference. In short the rice from Thai will be a preferred choice and will automatically have a higher consumption rate. It simply means unto those who have (Thai) more has been added. (Their market is expanding) Unto those who do not have (Ghana) even the little they have has been taken away from them. (Market is shrinking)

I have just used rice as an example of how Ghana is faring and will continue to fare under globalization. Rice is just one example there are several others. It is no secret among other things that our cedi is suffering under the weight of globalization. "Unto the Dollars, Pound Sterlings and Euros that have, more will be added and unto the CEDI which does not have, even the little that it has will be taken away: Hence the depreciation!!!

The crippling of the Cedi is not DEMONIC. It is a victim of the wrong moves we have made at the Chess game of the NEW WORLD ORDER. We have to take a break, regroup and re-straegize to understand the New World Order Game called GLOBALIZATION. It won't take just prayers, and it is certainly not about rebuking the devil. It will take three things that we hate to do.

1. SERIOUS THINKING
2. SERIOUS THINKING,
3. SERIOUS THINKING.

I am going to take time to do some serious thinking when I come back ( I do not know when. LOL.) But when I come back, I will have a few ideas to throw out there for all of us to digest. In the mean time the new hash tag is:

‪#‎SERIOUSTHINKING‬"

To the Ghanaian community on social media, please help lets make #SeriousThinking trend like wildfire.

Some of his children are from his first wife whom he parted with after seven years of living together. “I caught her cheating with another man and I assured her our relationship was over.”

Sebabi then met Namanda who was 18 by then, through his aunt who played go between. “I stayed with her four years before her people knew where she was. I didn’t want them to see me until we had a child because they would definitely advise her to leave me,” he recalls.

“She left me when she was six months pregnant but I think she later accepted her fate because she came back two months later,” he recounts.

Reasons why some Ghanaian women Cheat on their husbands (Confession)

Reasons some Ghana women cheat on their husbands

This is a confessional note a cheating Ghanaian married woman sent to Lexis Bill of Joy 99.7 FM - Accra.

She wrote, "I have been cheating on my husband for about two years now. I know it is wrong, very wrong but I seem to be enjoying it.

We have been married for the past 4 years with 2 children. 3 and 1. We both have very good jobs and have a lot of help with the children so we do not have issues with time and child care. After my first child, my husband started behaving like we are some old couple without a life anymore. It became worse with the second child.

We used to talk lot, go out a lot, go clubbing and dancing, we had regular date nights and were very adventurous with our sex life. He just killed everything.

I have spoken to him severally but he says that we are parents and we have to start acting responsibly.

Lexis, I am not saying we should be doing this always but at least Friday nights and Saturday nights, we can some fun.
I can tell you I am an excellent mother. I make time for those little treasures but he just can’t take my life away from me. The only place we will go is church and shopping for the home and the children.
Lexis, I started going out with a couple of my female friends who also have similar problems and before long, we are all having affairs just for the fun of it and to spice up our lives. We are about 8 ladies. We know it is wrong but it is fun I am sorry to say. See Lexis, a lot of women are cheating these days because they are stressed and their lives are boring. Could you bring this to the notice of our husbands. I beg you. I repeat, I am not proud of myself. I am 32, active and beautiful. Keeping women like us indoors in the name of parenting is killing. We beg our men.

SOME REASONS MY FRIENDS ARE CHEATING;
-ADULTERY
-SEXLESS MARRIAGES
-BORING SEX LIVES
-LACK OF QUALITY TIME TOGETHER
-FAMILY STRESS AND
 -LACK OF ROMANCE.

SIMPLY CALL ME AKOS."

Usher's Father's Day Letter To His Kids

Courtesy of Usher
Dear Usher and Naviyd

When you were both born, I felt a weakness and a strength at the same time. When I heard you both breathe and cry for the first time, if I didn’t have anything to hold on to, I would have passed out. When you arrived, my knees buckled! It was a very unique feeling of overwhelming happiness.

I still feel it today, especially when you make me laugh. Usher, your first word was Daddy, and Nayvid, yours was airplane, which tickled me because we were obviously doing a little traveling at the time. The confidence you both have about life always makes for interesting conversation. Nayvid, I’ve heard you insist that you are Jewish, just because you go to a diverse school. I’m going to let you roll with that for now.

Because being a father is the greatest role I’ve ever played in life. I’m always thinking 15, 20 years from now—who are you going to be? What is going to make you who you the person you will become? What will you represent?

Usher and Nayvid, just know that the love I have for you is unconditional—always has been and always will be. I’ll be your greatest supporter and your greatest critic because I will always be honest with you and push you to be your best selves. I only want what’s best for you.

Looking back, I’d say some of the greatest moments I’ve had with you are the moments I wanted for myself as a child, like taking you to school early in the morning in the minivan no matter what time I got home from work the night before. When I travel around the world, nothing makes me happier than to see you both smile when I get back. That joy in comparison to what I didn’t have as a kid—I think that’s part of what makes me the father that I am.

Love,
Daddy

The Petty, Childish And Immature gods Must Apologize For The Senseless Killings - KSM

KSM
Ghanaian ace comedian, founder and CEO of Sapphire Ghana Limited who is also the host of 'THE KSM SHOW' on Metro TV, Kwaku Sintim-Misa, known popularly as KSM has stated that he is praying to God to recall Africans in general and Ghanaians in particular and/or him to fix their thinking mechanisms as he suspects a bit of defects therein. He wrote this in a post he shared on his facebook page.

He also added that, the gods are petty, childish and immature for killing Ghanaians senselessly; as the Ga Traditional Council claimed the June 3 Accra floods and Goil filling station fire at Kwame Nkrumah Circle that killed over 150 people was caused by the gods of the land as a revenge to the bout between Bukom Banku and Ayittey Powers, and the noise that was produced during the May 16 celebrities-organized 'dumsor' must stop vigil. So the gods are to be blamed. lol

He wasn't also more impressed with God for killing human beings and leaving a Bible unburnt in the fire.

KSM wrote, "TOTAL RECALL"

I have been gathering information of some vehicle recalls. Basically when manufacturers realize that there has been a defect on the production line, there is an immediate recall. All the owners of such vehicles are contacted by the Manufactures through their dealerships to recall all such cars. The cars are returned to the dealerships and the defective parts are replaced.

What has this got to do with anything. Well folks, I have been thinking a lot about certain happenings. These things boggle my mind. It will take me a lifetime to lists these happenings, so I all just look at a few most recent:

1. Did I hear recently that there is speculation that the floods and the explosion could have been caused by the angry gods pissed with the dumsor vigil for noise making? If that is true, let me go on record to say the gods are very petty, childish and immature. I suggest that no more libations are poured until they apologize for the senseless killings.

2. Is it also true that some Christians were bragging that in all the explosion and death, God showed his power because a Bible did not burn? If that is true then I am sorry but I would have been more impressed if God had showed his power by miraculously saving the lives of the many innocents victims in that painful death.

3, Is it finally true that some prophets, (I use the word very loosely) are claiming God is angry with Ghana and the worst is yet to come? If that is true then I am sorry, I thought we served a God of compassion and I can't understand why his prophets are focused only DOOM AND GLOOM!

I could be be the crazy one here, but I am so worried about the State of thinking in this country. Or should I say the state of our UNTHINKING. Am I the crazy one? Anyway, this is where I get to my subject of RECALL.

If manufacturers are recalling cars to fix the defect, then I am praying to GOD to recall of us. AFRICANS IN GENERAL AND GHANAIANS in particular because I suspect a bit of defect in our thinking. If its just me, then God, please recall and fix my DEFECT!!!

The thinking mechanism is DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. Either mine, of all of US. #‎justthinking‬

"He has always been someone I can trust. Someone I can generally really on through the toughest of times. I admire him greatly. For his honesty is what I revere most. It is the best lesson he ever taught me. It is always best to be honest - speak your mind and be straight forward. Till today I can safely say I am still learning from the man. Canadian man Bets US$10,000 on Accra flooding again In 2016

Canadian man Bets US$10,000 on Accra floods In 2016

Hmmm. Nobody would wish the Accra floods that ended in a disaster and sent over 150 lives into their early graves to happen again, but this Canadian gambler has a point and he is right about it. He  has a high chance of doubling his fortune by winning the bet. Yes. Flooding in the capital is an annually expected event - it happened every year past and we became used to it like bed mates until it showed us on June 3, 2015 that it can wreck real havoc.

All I am wishing for is that, next years Accra floods should not claim human lives.

And the odds of this man winning the bet are in his favour.

PHOTOS: Jackie Appiah Donates to Accra disaster victims, But accused of selling

Jackie Appiah donation to Accra disaster victims 37 military hospital

Jackie Appiah on last Wednesday visited the 37 Military Hospital to make donations to the children who fell victims to the June 3rd  Accra floods and Goil filling station fire disaster at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra that claimed over 150 lives.

She took to facebook to share the photos above and below of her making the donation and captioned it in a way that showed she was advertising for her hair, make up and dress partners.

I know I am also adding to the advertisement but never mind.

Some of her fans found something wrong with the gesture and started accusing her of leveraging the moment to sell.

Jackie Appiah wrote, "So yesterday I decided to visit the Children & victims who were affected by the flood/gas explosion at the 37 Military hospital and donated cash and several items to the victims and after visited Nima a suburb of Accra where I interacted with the flood victims and also did the same donation. You should have seen the smile on their faces it was priceless ‪#‎SupportGhFloodsVictims‬.

KSM Hits Hard At Charlatan And Deluded Prophets In Ghana

KSM
Ghanaian ace comedian, founder and CEO of Sapphire Ghana Limited who is also the host of 'THE KSM SHOW' on Metro TV, Kwaku Sintim-Misa, known popularly as KSM in another post on his facebook page has revealed nothing likely he has for false prophets in Ghana who claim God has been revealing things to them.

Let me end here for you to read his post yourself.
He wrote, "NONSENSICAL PROPHECIES FROM DELUDED CHARACTERS
According to our modern day charlatan prophets, God has been revealing things to them. One of them told us some months ago that God had revealed to him that the Asantehene was going to die. As they always say, God "Reveals to redeem" so he had the responsibility to pray to avert it. Americans will call this "grade two psychology". I call this the "cannot-go-wrong-prophecy".

If for any reason the Asantehene dies (even if it is years later) he can claim that God had revealed it to him. If he does not die, he will claim he prayed against it. The prophecy cannot go wrong. Very comical indeed. I think the same prophet declared earlier that God had reveled to him that the President was going to die. I am very sure he prayed to avert that as well.

I just have one question for these charlatans, we just experienced a massive flood and a tragic explosion that has killed hundreds of our people. I am curious, why God does not reveal such things to the? It would have been great if any of these prophets had come out with a warning that God had revealed that on this precise day and at this precise time, there would be an explosion so people should avoid the Goil station. Are they telling us that God does not worry about such tragedies on a massive scale. Do you realize how VAGUE their prophecies are by the way? I believe we serve a God of PRECISION.

One of the all time greatest all prophets, also had a stampede in his church in Ghana which saw many deaths, sadly God chose to keep that away from him.

At the risk of angering those who believe in this fraudsters. I declare them deluded. Anyway, God has revealed to me that they will all me unmasked, but I will pray to avert it!!!!

NDC Or NPP? And So What? Culture Of Silence Creeping Back!! - KSM

KSM
Ghanaian ace comedian, founder and CEO of Sapphire Ghana Limited who is also the host of 'THE KSM SHOW' on Metro TV, Kwaku Sintim-Misa, known popularly as KSM has this deep but slightly comic message for all Ghanaians including the educated but yet intolerant civil society.
KSM wrote, "NDC OR NPP? AND SO WHAT? CULTURE OF SILENCE CREEPING BACK!!

Imagine you tune in to a radio show. The host says: "This morning, we are talking about diabetes: Speaking for the NDC is Dr. Kumi, and from the NPP we have Dr. Aboagye". That would be crazy folks!! LOL. I am sure you will be shocked. "What the hell does diabetes have to do with NPP/NDC?

As they say in our slang: "Like joke, like joke" that is what this country has turned into. Every single thing is politicized. What you say is not as important as the LABEL that people want to put on you. Whether it makes sense or not, is not as important as the PARTISAN LABEL they want to give you.
All I am asking today, is whether you carry the NDC label or NPP label AND SO WHAT?

I remember when the news broke that Kojo Oppong Nkrumah was going to run on the NPP ticket. The question was immediately raised: " Er, so all this time he was NPP?" I say AND SO WHAT? i find him to be an excellent broadcaster and communicator with very refreshing ideas. The bottom-line is that he did what he did with excellence and without partiality as a broadcaster. AND SO WHAT IF HE IS NPP?

That actor called Beautiful was one of the favorite actors loved by many Ghanaians until he came out as NDC. That should not have been a big deal but in Ghana, some people gathered and burned DVDs of his movies. He says he is NDC AND SO WHAT? Did that affect his acting skills?

Yuvonne Nelson chose to express her views on the Dumsor crises with a protest, all of a sudden, she is NPP. Even if she is NPP AND SO WHAT? Does she not have a right to express herself? John Dumelo said , "bear with the President on the dumsor crises he is working on it. All of a sudden he is NDC. Even if he is AND SO WHAT? Does he not have the right to express himself?

As for me the debate has been raging back and forth, I say here folks, that I don't care. Whether KSM is NPP or NDC, AND SO WHAT?

Let me say this for those who do not remember or where not even born. Some of us demonstrated against military dictatorships because WE HATED THE CULTURE OF SILENCE. I am sad to say, that I see the CULTURE OF SILENCE creeping back. Not from fear of any military dictator but this time from fear of AN INTOLERANT CIVIL SOCIETY.

INTELLIGENT PEOPLE, who have a lot to offer, decide to remain quite because they do not want to be subjected to a PARTISAN LABEL and insulted. Yes folks even under democracy, we have found a way to CREATE A NEW CULTURE OF SILENCE.

I appeal to every Ghanaian, especially those who afraid of being labelled. DO NOT ALLOW THE INTOLERANCE OF THE IGNORANT HOLD YOU BACK.

NDC OR NPP, AND SO WHAT?

‪#‎andsowhat‬?"

Accra Floods Disaster Not Natural But Leadership Failure Over Decades - Samia Nkrumah

Samia Nkrumah
The Chairwoman of the Convention People's Party(CPP), Samia Nkrumah; in her post on social media today has blamed the Accra floods induced Goil filling station fire disaster which occurred on this week's Wednesday evening at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra that claimed over 190 lives on leadership failure over decades.

This disaster could have been avoided with proper planning that takes into account the growing urban population of Accra, she added.

And she did not end her message without extending condolences the bereaved families, and thoughts and prayers to those who survived the disaster but suffered sever burns and are in the hospitals.

She wrote, "Incessant rains, rising water levels in our homes and roads, and the heart-breaking deaths of many due to the fire at the Circle Filling Stations are hard to bear. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of all who have died. Our thoughts and prayers also go out to those at the Burns Units in hospitals in Accra as a result of this terrible accident.

This is a disaster that affects all of us. But it is not a natural disaster. It is a failure of leadership over decades. This is a man-made disaster, which could have been avoided with proper planning that takes into account the growing urban population of Accra.

It is another wake up call to address the long-standing infrastructural problems that lead to what is becoming a seasonal occurrence.

This is the time to be our brothers' and sisters' keepers. Individuals and families caught out in the rain, need immediate assistance. You can help by donating clothes and shoes of all sizes and for all ages, tarpaulins and other plastic sheeting, long-handled brooms, food, water, hot drinks and any money you can spare.

Ghanaian woman Kills husband over Banku and Fish

Ghanaian woman kills husband over fanku and fish
Beauty Sabey
Beauty Sabey is in police custody.

A 33-year-old woman has been nabbed by the police for allegedly killing her husband during a misunderstanding over banku and smoked fish.

Beauty Sabey allegedly stabbed Francis Anagli, 26, with a kitchen knife during a scuffle on June 2, 2015 at Tsokome near Bortianor, Weija, in the Greater Accra Region.

The man purportedly passed on when he was being rushed to the Ga South Municipal Hospital for treatment.

Confirming the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, ASP Effia Tengey, Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, said the couple had been married for the past five years with two children together with a step child of the wife.

The deceased’s first child is five years while the second is only six months old.
Around 2pm on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, the couple had a misunderstanding and this resulted in a fight.
In the process, Beauty reportedly used a kitchen knife to stab the husband twice in the chest, resulting in his untimely death, according to the police officer.

The body has since been deposited at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

An eyewitness said Anagli lost his job months ago and so he could not meet his financial obligations to the family.

This compelled the wife to report the matter to the husband’s extended family members for redress but when Anagli got hint of it, he became offended and confronted the wife on it. The eyewitness said Francis Anagli left the house for town that morning.

Around 2pm when he returned home, he realised that the wife had prepared banku for the family.

When he settled down to eat his share of it, he realised that the wife had only served him with the banku and raw ground pepper without fish, while she ate her portion with smoked fish.

The eyewitness said Anagli confronted the wife to explain to him why she had served him with raw pepper without fish and this resulted in a fracas.

In the process, he allegedly slapped the woman but in return, Beauty, who was holding a knife, used it to stab the husband.

The matter was later lodged with the Weija police and Beauty was apprehended.

As at press time yesterday, she was in police custody assisting in investigations.

'Angry' Ghanaian man Letter to the Spanish Embassy

Angry Ghanaian Man letter to the Spanish Embassy in Accra
Written by: Dr. Agbeko Ocloo(Surgeon)
The Deputy Head of Mission
Embassy of Spain
Accra, Ghana
26th April 2015

Dear Sir:

I applied for a short-term visa to attend a medical conference in Barcelona from 26th April to 29th April 2015 and by your response dated 22nd April 2015 I had been denied an entry visa to your country. As was written in your rejection letter, I have an option of lodging a contentious-administrative appeal at the High Court of Justice of Madrid (Spain) within a two-month deadline counting from the date of serving. Since it is nigh impossible for me to get myself to Madrid and lodge my appeal I have decided to personally write to you for some clarification.

The reasons for denying me an entry visa were that the information regarding the justification for the purpose and conditions of the intended stay was not reliable and also that my intention to leave your country before the expiry of the visa could not be ascertained.

I know it is your prerogative to decide whom to grant a visa to but I feel personally insulted for the reasons you have given for the denial.

I am a highly trained orthopedic surgeon with specialty interest in orthopedic sports medicine and complex joint reconstruction. I have been a doctor for the past 20yrs. My current positions are:

1. Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon at the KorleBu Teaching Hospital.

2. Lecturer at the University of Ghana Medical School

3. Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons

4. Consultant for West Africa Rescue Association WARA. (I treat patients from the expatriate and diplomatic community including quite a number from Spain) I am sure if you were to injure yourself, am the most likely surgeon that you will be referred to.

I have attended medical conferences in Germany, Switzerland, South Africa, Japan, Canada, USA and Norway. Incidentally all these countries found my purpose for travelling justifiable except you. The letter of invitation I presented to you was written by a renowned surgeon in Madrid who trained in the same institution as I did in the United States. But I guess you did not find a letter written by such a person credible enough.

I find it laughable that you think I will not return to Ghana and end up as an illegal immigrant in Spain where people of my skin tone are treated as second-class citizens. I have a wife and children whom I do not intend to abandon. Although I do not consider myself wealthy, I am very comfortable economically and have investments in property and other assets in Ghana. How did you ever come to the conclusion that I was a flight risk?

May I kindly remind you of some basic facts about your country?

1. The unemployment rate in Spain presently is 25% and youth unemployment tops 50%. Why will I leave a stable job and to go and join the unemployment ranks in your country.

2. From January 2009 to end of 2013, 400,000 Spaniards emigrated to look for work outside of your country. And this is expected to rise in the coming years.

3. Doctors in Spain are the least/worst paid in the whole Euro zone. Why will I want to go work in a country where my counterparts are leaving in droves for economic reasons?

4. In the year 2012, it is on record that 2405 medical doctors applied for certification to work abroad, according to The Medical Spanish Association – a 75% increase compared with 2011. 83% of doctors seek jobs in Europe (mainly the UK and France) and 7% America.

5. In 2009, the Health Ministry warned that there was a shortage and that the country needed around 3,200 more doctors. By 2025, at the present rate the shortfall will be around 25,000. The Spanish government has talked of increasing the number of university and medical school places, as well as making it easier for overseas personnel to work here.

Sir, as a representative of the country of Spain you have failed woefully in your responsibility to promote the interest of your country by denying me a visa. My skill, knowledge and experience will be invaluable to the Spanish people even if I decided not to come back to Ghana. Furthermore my budget for this conference topped € 5000. This is the amount of money that would have been injected into the Spanish economy in a week. Can you imagine the economic loss if all the doctors from all over the world attending this conference were denied entry into Spain? I was due to present two papers and since I was not able to go I have informed the conveners of the conference of my inability to attend. This is an international conference and can you imagine the embarrassment your compatriot doctors will feel when it is announced that I could not present my scientific papers because you denied me a visa? Never mind that I cannot get a full refund for my ticket and my total booking for the hotel is not refundable.

Given the reason for visa rejection, a detailed explanation on which aspects of my application did not provide sufficient evidence that I will return to Ghana is most welcome. I am particularly curious to know of the lofty economic standards set for Ghanaians to visit to Spain when Spaniards themselves barely meet these standards.

Yours truly,
Dr. Agbeko Ocloo MB.ChB FWACS
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
